Packaging of Olympos Halva Almond

Olympos Halva Almond by Papayianni Bros (est. 1949)

Four years ago I reviewed Olympos Halva Almond for the first time. Recently I noticed it, wrapped in a brand new packaging, waiting for me on the shelf of local gourmet store. Naturally, I decided to check if anything else had changed since then 🙂

While sampling, I stated right away that the taste of Olympos Halva Almond just got better. Now it is less sweet and therefore a bitter & nutty flavour of sesame seeds seems much stronger. As before, lots of almonds makes this halva simply irresistible for those who are partial to crunchy desserts.

However, I didn’t like that I have found such a thin piece of halva inside the box. Consequently this delicious treat had a somewhat tacky coating and, accordingly, I couldn’t enjoy the texture very much. This is why I always prefer thick blocks of halva – they preserve its taste and other qualities best!

Finally, I think that Olympos Halva Almond is identical to Eridanous Halva with Almonds which you may find in Lidl stores during repetitive “Greek week” campaigns. Both of them are made by Papayianni Bros and their nutritional facts are the same. So, if you like either one, be aware that there is its “twin” available to purchase 🙂
